The Story
It was a dire situation when all three of the bands Bunn was in broke up, leaving him with unpaid studio rent and no source of income. Forced to go back to a day job, he began exploring options to negate the risk of working with unstable collaborators. It was here where Bunn discovered techniques and workflows to produce traditional rock based music, using a budget-friendly laptop, some relatively basic recording software, and a few key pieces of gear
Initially, the transition to this new solo based production style proved challenging. The Bunn struggled to achieve the same results he was accustomed to using "real gear" in a full, real band setup. It was in the struggle to refine this new process that the Foreigns sound was discovered and the decision to go instrumental was cemented.
While the goal was to create heavier and slower material Inspired by sludge and doom, it was also important to avoid as many of the genre tropes and cliches as possible. After 6 years of exploration, the "Metropolitan" EP was born showcasing the project’s unique blend of “post” heavy genre experimentation.
The Foreigns sound continues to evolve, progressing away from the initial post sludge and doom influences, into more of a post-hardcore style crossed with classic rock. While the project maintains a heavy vibe, it does so actively avoiding conventional metal treatments and techniques.
