The Story

WTLNDS emerged unexpectedly from a video project in 2019, with tight deadlines that required original music. A blues based direction was chosen for it’s inherent simplicity and expressiveness. A major departure from the typical Bunn approach who had never previously explored the blues. Bunn, long under the impression that everything had already been done much better than anything Bunn could bring to it. The resulting tune “Wetlands” came out with an unexpected, compelling character.

Over the next two years, Bunn wrote more material, further refining the sound by tuning the guitars down to the same octave as the bass and actively exploring a post-sludge, crossed with a post-hardcore aesthetic. The initial track name of "Wetlands," morphed into the project name, "WTLNDS." The original "Wetlands" piece was later re-recorded and included on the "Floral" EP under the track name "Foreigns," as a call-back to acknowledge its origins.

Currently, WTLNDS is in the process of a follow-up EP, with over 200 riffs in the stockpile. The new material is being conceived 4466 km from home base, on the Pacific Northwest Coast, exploring a mountainous, rugged aesthetic.
